In New York, there are many different reasons that a driver can lose the right to drive. For example, a suspended license or revoked driver’s license can be one consequence of a conviction for driving while under the influence of drugs or alcohol. The New York Department of Motor Vehicles manages some of the parameters for how a license can be lost and how it can be regained.
A driver’s license suspension is a temporary loss of driving privileges for a designated period of time. At the end of the period, the license can be reinstated. A driver’s license revocation is a permanent loss of a driver’s license. After a certain amount of time, the driver can apply for a brand new license. A 29-year old man from Queens was recently stopped by officers in Sagaponack on a Saturday evening. According to reports, the man was pulled over because he was speeding. Initially, the driver refused to give the officer appropriate paperwork when asked. Eventually, it was discovered that the driver’s license had been either revoked or suspended a total of 32 times in New York. Police charged him with aggravated unlicensed operation and obstruction of governmental administration.
