Charges Dropped Against New York DJ, Driver's License Reinstated

|

When law enforcement issues a driver a ticket for a traffic offense, they have an obligation to resolve that ticket, whether it be paying a fine or going before a judge to contest the ticket. While the consequences of a ticket may not severe, if a motorist disregards a traffic ticket, it could result in a suspended driver’s license, which can have much longer, more significant effects.

A popular local radio host was reportedly arrested in April after being stopped at an NYPD checkpoint. According to reports, a record check with the department of motor vehicles showed he had a suspended license for unresolved traffic tickets. He was charged with driving without a license and aggravated operating a vehicle without a license.

Recently, a judge dismissed the charges against the DJ. He reportedly contested the tickets, claiming he had never received the summonses. The state was not able to prove he was aware of the tickets because they had been sent to a prior, New York address and he had since moved to New Jersey. With the dismissal, his driver’s license was also reinstated. The judge did also order the radio host to pay the amount owed for the prior tickets.

Whether you have received a ticket or have had your license suspended, all motorists have the option of challenging traffic charges. The outcome is not always the same is it was in this case, however. If you have a suspended license, or another traffic charge you need to resolve, it may be beneficial to consult with an experienced attorney. A lawyer can explain your options and help you determine the best course of action for your situation.
